Graduate Geotechnical Engineer

Due to a healthy forward looking workload and continued team growth our clients are looking for an ambitious and motivated graduate to intermediate level engineer to join our Geotechnical and Environmental team in Westhill.
Responsibilities and Accountabilities
Successful candidates will have opportunities to develop and grow their experience within a multi-disciplinary company with exposure to a range of development types including highways and rail infrastructure, industrial, commercial, residential and leisure development.
Successful candidates will be enthusiastic, confident and self-motivated with excellent verbal and written communication ability and time management skills. The responsibilities of a successful candidate will include the following:
  • Design and implementation of Preliminary Risk Assessments and Intrusive Ground investigations including knowledge of soil and rock logging standards, intrusive ground investigation techniques, specification of appropriate soil and groundwater sampling methods and scheduling of both geotechnical and environmental laboratory testing;
  • Basic understanding of contaminated land legislation and planning regime to provide consideration of geo-environmental ground investigation scoping and generic risk assessment within wider combined site assessments, with the support of geo-environmental specialist staff;
  • Interpretative report writing including awareness and understanding of the following geotechnical issues:
o Slope stability;
o Foundations;
o Earthworks;
o Soil & Rock engineering;
o Ground improvement;
Graduate engineers will have the opportunity to grow and develop an understanding of the above disciplines and intermediate level shall be expected to fulfil the above responsibilities with support and mentoring from senior members of staff.
Candidates would be expected to be proficient in the use of the Microsoft Office suite. Knowledge of AutoCAD, ArcGIS, RocScience (Slide, RocFall), Oasys (pDisp, Xdisp), gINT software would be an advantage.
Qualifications
A good degree in Geology or Civil Engineering is required. An MSc in Geotechnics, Geotechnical Engineering or Engineering Geology would be beneficial but is not essential. Intermediate level engineers are expected to be working towards Chartered status.
The salary for this role is £21,000 to £25,000 per annum dependant on experience with excellent benefit programmes available.
